3. Overview of the Dos command There are variety of reasons why you need DOS. A few of them are listed below to satisfy your curiosity. 1.DOS controls the flow of information between you and the computer (translator). 2.DOS allows you to store information on your computer. 3.DOS allows you to retrieve information stored on your computer. 4.DOS interprets and translates the software you have on your computer. 5.DOS give you access to all its functions. 4. Basic MS DOS Command. 1. Ver :- shows the version of your dos prompt 2. Dir :- list all the directories from your present parent file. 3. cd [filename] :- change your present directory to your specified filename (dis could be some what case sensitive, if not as typed as the filename itself it will not find the path) 4. /p and /w /s:- per page and the per width display format, show all the files and directories below this directory (recurs) 5. cd \ :- from any point takes u back to the root directory ( depending on the your version of the DOS prompt some DOS prompt also recognize the cd / for the same action) Overview of the Dos command Cont… A.B.U repair computer training (www.suprixtechnology.com)

5. 6. cd.. :- takes you back to the parent directory i.e. a step backward on its part 7. md [filename] :- creates a directory with the file name specified. 8. rd [filename] :- remove/delete an existing directory 9. to change from one drive to another simply type the drive letter followed by a colon (a:) 10. copy [source] [Destination] :- the command line copy a file specified by the “source” and make a duplicate of it to another destination 11. ren [old name] [new name] :- this command rename an existing folder 12. del [filename] :- used to delete a file deleting a group of file e.g. deleting files with the extension.old type dir *.old to list all the files and del *.old to delete all the files associated with this file Overview of the Dos command Cont… A.B.U repair computer training (www.suprixtechnology.com)

7. Installation/uninstallation of Software Overview Installing a software sometimes gets easy, as most software uses the installation wizard. All that is required is following it up to get the desired result at the end of the installation. Uninstalling on the other hand require a different method but quite simple. Start button  Control Panel  Programs and Features ( right click on the program to be remove and click uninstall ) But we have to take note that some programs however does not fully uninstall as some files which the programs has created are still there which can be a residue causing some malfunction to the program when install next time and also occupies space on the hard disk. Installation/uninstallation of Software Overview Con… Deleting Programs Registry Files Sometimes after uninstalling a program that requires activation key or that gives us a guarantee time before we are required to purchase the activation key. After this period which mostly is after 30 days we might have uninstall the program, reinstall to start a new 30 free trial section. But we sometimes find out that its is impossible to achieve as the system already save it on its registry file that you have exceeded this trial period, to over write this trial file and reuse the trial period we will have to delete the registry file that holds the file. 9. Installation/uninstallation of Software Overview Con… FrameWork.Net Most users usually complains most time that some of their application requires.Net to work. If your system do not prompt you to install.Net then it don’t probably requires it But most Microsoft Application of the likes of Auto Cade, Photoshop and other application that require higher graphics mostly requires this to function properly. 10. Steps in Installing.Net Framework Below are the step by step method of installing.Net framework into your computer: 1.Create a folder on your system drive called NET35 (example C:\NET35). Try using the previous knowledge from CMD 2.Mount your Windows 8 ISO file on your DVD 3.Copy the folder sources\sxs\ from the windows 8 ISO into the newly created NET35 folder. I recommend using XCOPY for it, For example: xcopy G:\sources\sxs\ *.* C:\NET35 /s (Note that this copy the content of SXS folder into NET35 and not the folder itself) A.B.U repair computer training (www.suprixtechnology.com)

11. Steps in Installing.Net Framework Cont. Once you copy all the files, you can now utilize DISM to enable the.NET framework 3.5 features by entering the following command in an elevated command prompt (i.e. running command prompt as an administrator) DISM.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:c:\net35/LimiteAccess (Note the above is one line) If everything runs smoothly you should now have the.Net framework 3.5 installed without the computer needing access to the internet A.B.U repair computer training (www.suprixtechnology.com)

Using DOS Command to Create a Bootable Device 1.Insert a USB flash drive into a running computer. 2.Open a Command Prompt window as an administrator. 3.Type diskpart. 4.In the new command line window that opens, to determine the USB flash drive number or drive letter, at the command prompt, type list disk, and then click ENTER. Using DOS Command to Create a Bootable Device Cont… 5.At the command prompt, type select disk, where X is the drive number or drive letter of the USB flash drive, and then click ENTER. 6.Type clean, and the click ENTER. This command deletes all data from the USB flash drive. 7.To create a new primary partition on the USB flash drive, type create part pri, and then click ENTER. 8.To select the partition that you just created, type select part 1, and then click ENTER. 9.To format the partition, type format fs=ntfs quick, and then click ENTER. If your server platform supports Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), you should format the USB flash drive as FAT32 rather than as NTFS.
