2 Introduction (4-5 sentences) 1.HOOK 2.Introduce the issue: Briefly explain the issue and the controversy surrounding the argument. Give background information. 3.State your claim: This is your thesis statement!!!!

3 Body Paragraphs (5-6 sentences) 1.Topic sentence- introduces a reason people should be convinced by your argument. 2.Specific evidence to support the thesis statement. Use facts, examples, and statistics to back up your claim. 3.Explain how each piece of evidence supports the claim. 4.Close with a concluding sentence.

4 Body paragraph #3 2-3 sentences 1.Discuss the counterargument. This proves that you fully understand the topic and you are being fair-minded. Transition words to use in the counterargument: It might seem that,It’s true that Of course,Certainly One might objectAt first glance, Admittedly,While Some people claim 2. The turn-back is a return to the original argument.

5 Conclusion (4 sentences) 1.Restate the thesis statement or claim. 2.Write one or two sentences that summarize the reasons and evidence. 3.Include a benefit of your claim. ***Do not use I believe or I think in your conclusion!
