1 American Exchange Pre – Departure Meeting 2 Please sign the Register.

2 You will find that there are two categories of paperwork to complete at this stage: 1) Paperwork for the American University 2) Paperwork for the University of Winchester

3 Things to remember: Search for Fall 2015 Level 300 classes only. Minimum of 12 US credits (16 US credits for SOU only). Classes must be relevant to your Degree and match your learning outcomes. Classes you wouldn’t be able to take here at Winchester. Appropriate classes may be under different topics. Classes must be approved by your Programme Leader.

12 Print your list of classes of interest and descriptions. Take to your Programme Leader(s) as they will approve. Always list reserve classes. Class selections can be submitted a little later than your application documents.

14 Financial Evidence The evidence can be from different sources: e.g. your bank statement; your parent’s/other’s bank statement; student loan statement; other sources. Statements must be ORIGINAL. If you can only submit copies, an authorised person must certify (stamp and sign) to confirm accuracy. If you are submitting someone else’s statement you must enclosed a cover letter written and signed by them confirming they are happy to financially support you.

16 What happens next? I scan everything you submit and email it to your US Host; I post all your documents. Their deadlines for receipt are imminent! Upon acceptance, your US Institution will send you an acceptance pack. A vital document within this pack is the DS- 2019. Once you have the DS-2019 you can book your visa appointment at the American Embassy. SEVIS Fee: There is a SEVIS fee imposed by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service. You must have paid for this before your visa interview! $180 and matriculation fee of $160.

17 Applying for your Visa We recommend you schedule your appointment as soon as you receive your DS-2019. Note: Cannot have your visa issued more than 90 days prior to the start date on your DS-2019. Typical Documents Required: Certificate of eligibility- DS-2019 form. Passport valid for at least 6 months in the future. Completion/print out of DS-160 form. Proof of admission letter – I produce this for you. 19 Insurance The University of Winchester will provide you with full insurance cover for the duration of your Study Abroad period. You will be issued with an insurance card to put in your wallet. You must carry this card with you at all times! If you have an accident or need medical attention please remember, you must: 1)tell the hospital/health centre that you are insured 2)Phone the insurance company to let them know 3)Tell us in Winchester as soon as you can.
