Authentication
The Authentication process identifies who the user is through a set of credentials. For users that access the SunTrust ReportNet applications, the authentication will occur against the corporate active directory server.
Authorization
Authorization stipulates what you are permitted to do within the environment once your identity has been validated. It is the process of granting or denying users access to data, and permission to perform activities on that data, based on their sign on identity. This type of security addresses two distinct areas:
Object: object level security refers to access to the components that make up the ReportNet application such as folders and reports
Data: Data level security addresses the need to protect specific rows and/or columns within a database

8. Project Objective, Scope and Business Value
Current Cognos version support will be terminated by the vendor. To make sure right vendor support is available for
Cognos in SunTrust, this project aims to upgrade the current Cognos tool from to newer and supported version
Migrate Cognos tool and its related components like framework manager etc. to the newer version.
Migrate current production artefacts to newer Cognos version.
Perform adequate testing and implement any changes required to be compatible with the new Cognos version.
Cognos tool is enterprise reporting tool for SunTrust and used by all LOBs in SunTrust. Adequate support from vendor is key for new report development and analytics.
Analytical and new business development programs leverage Cognos for data analytics and key business decisions. Unavailability right support from vendor will drive losses in revenue.
