2 What is a Feral Child? A feral child is someone who has been isolated from human contact or has been taken into care by wild animals. Usually seen in people abandoned at a young age or kept in an area of extreme solace for a large period of time, feral children find trouble being integrated back into society after being apart for so long. It is common for speech impediments and loss of basic grammar to be expressed in a feral child. It is fairly uncommon for a feral person to cooperate with those who try to introduce them back into society, and they are sometimes violent toward other people. Although it is still possible to bring them back, it is an extremely difficult task.

3 Post-Feral Life After a person hasn’t been exposed to human contact for an extremely long time, they have trouble being taken back into society. Why is that? What makes them so difficult to co-operate with? One of the main reasons is that people’s minds tend to deteriorate after a while. If you don’t have to communicate with others for a while, you will likely forget how to. If you don’t need to express manners, you block them out after a while. After being isolated from other life, the human mind begins to lose awareness. Evidence of hallucinations and insanity are commonly shown in people that were once away from other people. They forget the outside world.

4 How does it relate to the novel? The topic of feral children relates to the monster in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein in the sense that both the humans and the monster are suddenly thrown into a drastically more advanced society. The concepts presented in these societies may seem foreign and confusing to them. In both the exposure of feral children to modern society and the acclimation of the monster, the learning processes are slow, as this exposure causes reason for them to completely reevaluate existence and their basic understanding of reality in general. The main reason why the learning processes are slow is because both the feral children and the monster in the book have been isolated. This means that they have had no influence from other people and have had to learn how to act either on their own, or from the animals and objects around them.
