3 Movies ●A new form of entertainment making life happier after the horrors of WWI o Movie industry grew rapidly

4 ●First movie theaters called Nickelodeons o During the 1920s, 60 to 100 million Americans went to the movies each week o Biggest output of movies in 1920s and 30s (800 films per year - today 500 is remarkable)

5 ●The Big Five studios dominated the industry o Warner Bros. Paramount Radio-Keith-Orpheum (RKO) o Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM)Fox

6 ●The Little Three (didn’t own their own theaters) o Columbia Universal United Artists

7 ●Chinese Theater (LA) built by Sid Grauman (1927) o Immortalized Hollywood icons through handprints/footprints
