3 What is Universal Design for Learning (UDL)? Multiple Means to Stimulate Interest Multiple Means to Present Information Multiple Means of Student Differentiated Expression of Knowledge Station I (UDL for Learning, 2013)

5 Station I UDL Misconceptions UDL should come in a box UDL is just good teaching UDL is only for special education students or students with learning disabilities UDL cannot be done without computers UDL does not prepare students for standardized testing UDL is too difficult to be used every day for every lesson The UDL Approach UDL removes barriers created by curriculum Creates curriculum designed to meet diversity Shows information in various ways Allow students to approach learning tasks and demonstrate what they know in different ways Offer options that engage students to keep their interest (CAST, 2014).

6 Career and Technical Education Preparation for the future of tomorrow… Fulfills interest in a particular field Provides practical experience and a jump-start on a career Hands-on learning environment For students not planning on attending college Provides training Leads to certification in a vocational field Students may apply credits earned in a vocational high school program toward a two-year or four-year degree Station II (ACTE, 2015).

10 Critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity are interwoven throughout UDL; thus, creating a curriculum in which that all students can contribute according to his/her strengths and abilities. Reading, writing, and arithmetic are also integrated throughout the curriculum by UDL and through technology. Students knowledgeable with media and technology skills in combination with the 4Cs and 3Rs will gain the experience and education in life and career skills through their involvement in CTE schools.
