4 Teenage Pregnancy We said Provide flexible support services Early intervention in schools Help reduce repeat pregnancies in teenage mums Develop community peer schemes. We did Targeted work aimed at vulnerable and at risk young people in hot spot wards, including running self- esteem and aspirational programmes for young people at risk Midwives providing additional support to teenage mothers

5 Mental Wellbeing We said Undertake an anti stigma campaign Offer employment learning Take on new graduates, including those with mental health issues Distribute leaflets widely on managing stress and anxiety and highlight the support available. We did new programme for Bedford service users called Your Way, offering flexible mental health support and guidance to suit service user’s needs launched The Impact MH Peer Support Programme - a community based mental health, peer support service.

6 Tobacco control and alcohol We said Reduce the rates of smoking in those under 16 Each organisation to have a commitment to achieving alcohol and smoking targets Look at regulation for reducing access for those under 16 Establish issues that cause stress and tackle these We did Alcohol Strategy sets out recommendations and supporting evidence. CALS service in Bedford Hospital and some GPs providing early identification and support for people identified as experiencing alcohol related problems. Kick Ash programme will be offered to all Upper Schools in BBC

7 Looked after children We said Develop early intervention strategy (prevent children becoming looked after in the first place) Offer parenting support and skills Refocus health visiting Address resource issues for LAC, specifically relating to mental health. We did Early Intervention Strategy developed Foster care training and health packs provided for all LAC children throughout this financial year

8 Independence We said Increase the number of exercise clubs/groups /sessions Formulate a strategic vision for housing and planning Pool budgets to benefit citizens Promote ‘Silverline’ Provide advice for managing care home fees Explore health pension planning and link to health checks for over 45s We did Active Bedfordshire commissioned to deliver additional physical activity programmes Housing Strategy published Lifestyle hub (both physical and virtual) under development to enable GPs to refer people to a single point of contact for motivational interviewing and onward referral to local sports/active leisure programmes. Community Equipment Service procured in partnership to maximise efficiencies, winning the SOPO award

9 End of life care We said Provide better support to families after a person dies Provide/develop information for GPs so they know what the choices and barriers are for end-of-life care Confirm role of hospices and best value within limited resources. We did Partnership for Excellence in Palliative Support (PEPS) in place to ensure coordinated end of life pathway Workshop for GPs being arranged to set out choices and overcome barriers

10 Safeguarding We said Improve interagency communication protocol Children’s Centres and GPs to communicate more proactively and share intelligence Consider standard forms across all agencies Introduce parenting programmes for teaching parenting skills to parents of older children We did Adult Safeguarding Boards of BBC, CBC and Luton Borough have agreed the use of a single alert form Partners from statutory, community and voluntary agencies committed to the responsible sharing of information Improved levels of statutory training.

11 Healthy weight We said Promote BeeZee Bodies much more widely Lobby the retail sector on pricing Intervene early and address issues within our organisations first Data sharing needs to be improved between organisations to enable positive action We did Beezee bodies secured media attention Discussions with the national Responsibility Deal programme regarding a local pilot

12 To do Roll out evidence based programmes based on need: eg. – Aspire training for at risk young people – strength and balance training for older people at risk of falls – the community alcohol liaison service Maintain commitment of all organisations to deliver targets: – eg. Smoking quitters and alcohol targets Deliver recommendations outlined in Borough strategies – eg the housing, early intervention and alcohol strategies Monitor performance and progress: – through the HWB structures Continue to strengthen partnership working – including communication flows and information sharing between organisations
