4 Brainstorming Time: Teaching students to write poems? Is it possible? How old is appropriate for students’ to start? Low/Mid/High Graders?

6 A poem in which the first letters of each line spell out a word or phrase. The word or phrase can be a name, a thing, or whatever you like. Work 1 Work 2 Acrostic Poem 離合詩 :

7 Cinquains are just five lines long, with only a few words on each line. The first and last lines have just two syllables, while the middle lines have more, so they end up with a diamond-like shape. Work 3 Cinquain 五行詩

8 Cherihew Poem 嵌名打油詩 Funny poems you write about specific people. You can write about your parents, your teacher, your favorite movie star, your best friend, your pet, or just anyone. Work 4

9 Diamante Poem 晶鑽詩 An unrhymed seven-line poem. The beginning and ending lines are the shortest, while the lines in the middle are longer, giving diamante poems a diamond shape. Work 5 Work 6

10 Haiku Poem 三行誹句詩 An unrhymed three-line poem. It is based on a traditional Japanese poetic form. The traditional pattern in English is to write the first and last lines with five syllables each, and the middle line with seven syllables

11 Limerick Poem 五行打油詩 The rules for a limerick are : 1. They are five lines long. 2. Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme with one another. 3. Lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other. 4. They have a distinctive rhythm. 5. They are usually funny.

12 Fractured Nursery Rhymes 片段式韻文改編詩 To start, the best resource comes from…… First, you’ll need to choose a nursery rhyme, or a well-known song After you’ve selected a poem, you’ll need to find the words that rhyme. Work 7 Work 8

13 Silly Song Parody 詼諧的改編詩文 Just take any song you know – preferably a song that other people know too – and change the words to make your song. Work 9 Work 10
