St. Ignatius Success Mapping English Department AMDG Year 7

What are we doing? AMDG We are going to calculate our end of KS3 targets and our expected progress across KS3. We will be using the English ‘Success Map’ to predict our progress at different points throughout KS3. It will look like this:

Why are we doing this? AMDG 1.So that we all know what levels we should be achieving in our class assessments this year – and throughout KS3 – to reach our full potential. 2.Once we have mapped out our expected progress, we will be able to plot our actual progress using an ‘X’ when our end of unit assessments have been completed. Most importantly, this will show us if we are on track to make and/or exceed the progress that we are expected to make.

Step 1 AMDG  You should each have a green English KS3 Success Map. Fill in your name, form and your English teacher’s name.  You should find out your end of KS2 level from your teacher.  You should enter this level into the first column (KS2) by shading in the correct box in the correct column.

Step 2 AMDG  Add 2 full levels to your end of KS2 level to work out your ‘End of KS3 target’ and then put this information on your map by shading in the correct box in the correct column. For example, if you achieved a level 4b in English at the end of KS2 then you should expect to achieve a level 6b at the end of KS3.

Step 3 AMDG  Add 1 full level onto your ‘End of KS3 target’ level to work out your ‘Aspirational KS3 target’ and then put this information onto your map by shading in the correct box in the correct column. For example, if you achieved a level 4b in English at the end of KS2 then you should expect to achieve a level 6b at the ‘End of KS3’ and should aspire to achieve a level 7b at the end of KS3.

Step 4 AMDG  Go back to your KS2 level.  This will act as your “starting point” for this year.

Step 5 AMDG  Work out the levels that you will need to achieve in the half-termly assessments in years 7, 8 and 9 to achieve your ‘End of KS3’ target on time. (A bit like joining the dots.)  Shade in the boxes for each assessment by following the pattern exactly that is on the next slide…

An example: AMDG IMPORTANT: You MUST follow this pattern exactly but from your OWN starting point (KS2 level).

Does it look similar to this? AMDG Please note: The colours on your Success Map do not have to match this example, this has only been done for clarity.

By the end of the year… AMDG Is this student on track to meet his ‘End of KS3 target’? How do you know? IMPORTANT: You should record your half-termly assessment results with an ‘X’ so that you can see if you are on track to meet and/or exceed your target. x x x x xx
