7 The ACA is an advisory board to the Secretary of Labor that provides advice and recommendations on matters related to Registered Apprenticeship The ACA recently submitted a report to the Secretary on a vision for 21 st Century Registered Apprenticeship (one-pager available for download) #7

8 The report highlights the need for better policies to support Registered Apprenticeship through WIA and other federal, state & local resources Time to make Registered Apprenticeship a mainstream education and career pathway option, one that can help the country maintain its prominence in building the strongest, most adaptable, and most credentialed workforce in the world Related WIA/Registered Apprenticeship National Governor’s Association Initiatives Today’s webinar is highlighting an excellent example of a integrated workforce solution that should be replicated across the country #8

11 R-CAR (Road Construction Apprentice Readiness Program) –(2008-2010) – Readiness training for new job opportunities in the Construction field. 374 participants. E-CAR (Energy Conservation Apprentice Readiness Program) –(2008 – 2011) – Readiness training for new job opportunities in the Energy Sector. 200 participants. MRAPP (Michigan Registered Apprenticeship Pilot Program) –(2009) – $1M incentive in Workforce Investment Act / American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding to employers to sponsor USDOL registered apprentices. 283 apprentices, 30 occupations.

12 Created in early 2012 by a partnership comprised of the State of Michigan’s Workforce Development Agency, the US Department of Labor’s Michigan Office of Apprenticeship, and the City of Detroit’s Workforce Development Board. Designed to recruit and prepare Detroit residents with marketable skills, allowing them to earn and learn in high-demand fields while positioning them on a sustainable career path. Goal: Place 20 individuals (18-24 yrs. old) into USDOL registered apprenticeships by the Spring of 2013.
