1 PRE-VISIT MEETING FOR PARENTS

2 Main objectives of this meeting: Familiarise parents with key information about the 2016 residential in Telford. Who is going? Why are we going? Where are we going? What will we be doing? What should we take? Rooms and expectations Medicines and medical forms

5 The mystery of the bridge and the goat... The world's first iron structure, and arguably the most important bridge ever built, the Iron Bridge, Shropshire, is a must-see for history and engineering fans alike.

6 OUR ITINERARY… Approximately 200 miles on the first day. Packed lunch to be provided by parents for the first day.

8 We are the only school there. Locked front door at night. Security code required for entry. Staff present on-site at all times. Separate lodgings in annex for driver. accommodation

9 Children will be expected to transport their case from the bus, up a short but steep slope and up to possibly the 2 nd floor. (This building has tall ceilings!)

10 You may want to pack the case with your child. They should know what went in hopefully! Perhaps include a list.

11 ROOMS Pupil rooms of 4,6 & 8 Most rooms have en-suite facilities Staff located between children’s rooms Boys on a separate floor to girls Pupils told room-mates on the coach Daily room inspection for prizes Children can keep the light in their bathroom if they need one to fall asleep to.

12 Challenge number one…. Making your own bed and putting a duvet cover on successfully.

13 FOOD Vegetarian options available for each meal. They are aware of our dietary requirements. Pupils are allowed to ask for more. Cooked breakfast / cereal options for breakfast. Children help set and clear tables as a team. Breakfast, packed lunches and evening meal provided.

14 Pupils will have been given a menu and asked to choose before we go.

15 Electronic items are allowed but solely for the journey. Cameras are allowed but please do not bring phones. Items will be collected in after the coach ride and returned for the return journey. Children may keep cameras with them. Top trumps, card games, books and travel games are an ideal way to be sociable, as is bus-bingo!

17 Dear Mother, I have yet to find the towel that I was meant to pack. My main means of drying myself have been to run on the spot and make ‘snow-angels on the carpet. POSTCARD HOME Please could you pack a self- addressed stamped postcard

20 Medical forms…These should be included in your handbook and need to be returned to school at your earliest convenience. We will have a fridge to keep medicines cool, if appropriate. Any travel sickness pills need to be given with enough time to become effective on the outward journey. An envelope with the child’s name and dosage clearly marked for the return journey needs to be given to Mr A-J on Tuesday morning. Consider sun cream if the weather looks as if it will be hot.

23 Is there free WIFI? Do we wear school uniform? Do ‘they’ search your bags? Is there free Wifi? What happens if you sleep walk? Can we bring a clock? When do we wake up? Will there be a bell to wake us up? Will there be room inspections? Do we need slippers? Is there a code to get into your room? Is there WIFI? How much money do we bring? Will teacher’s read a story before bed? What if we forget our bags? Will we be able to run around Telford? What happens if you break a bone? How many teddies? How many teddy bears are you allowed? What if you are homesick? What electrical items are you allowed? Room codes? WiFi ?

24 What happens if I need to practice Taekwondo ? What happens if we have to share a room with a girl? Hair conditioner / bedside table ? Are hot water bottles allowed? WI-FI… WI-FI …. WI-FI ?
