2 What is AMSA? Your Local Chapter Our Mission: The UIUC Chapter of the American Medical Student Association is committed to educating premedical and pre-health students on health care issues on a local and global level, as well as promoting active improvement in medical education by involving its members in the social, moral and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine including education in community outreach, volunteering, fundraising, and philanthropic events in the Champaign-Urbana area.

3 What is AMSA? National Organization Founded in 1950 as the Student American Medical Association (SAMA) breaking off from the American Medical Association (AMA) Student-run organization meant to provide medical students a chance to participate in organized medicine. Changed name to American Medical Student Association (AMSA) in 1975 Best known for advocacy, leadership and activism

5 Your Local AMSA Director Board We will introduce each officer position that composes our Director Board for our local UIUC AMSA Chapter Leadership Opportunity: Each officer will be selecting 1-5 chair positions to assist with that position’s duties for the year. Chair positions can be filled by new members – that means you! Make note of which positions you like if you are interested in becoming a chair.

8 Vice President Balaji Jothishankar My main responsibility will be collaborating with the Medical Student AMSA on campus to hold mock interviews, resume and personal statement critiques and discussion forums. I also organize Pre-Med Panels where upperclassmen can answer questions. I will be organizing our annual trip to National Convention in Washington, D.C. Chairs will be helping me plan these events – looking for 1-2 chairs.
