2 Welcome! Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) 1 st meeting for the 2013-2014 school year

3 What is AED? The National Pre-professional Health Honor Society PSU Beta Chapter Caters to students on paths toward: – Medicine – Dental – PA – Nursing – And many other health related fields…

4 What can AED do for me? Access to information and advice regarding entrance into healthcare careers Opportunities for volunteering and community service Job-shadowing and research resources Nationally recognized involvement in campus activities Leadership Opportunities (officer, committee head, etc.) Improvement of PSU committee recommendation letter

5 Why be an active member of AED? There are 3 types of membership: I.General Member: attends meetings, involved in committee work II.Local Honors Member: active member, meets honors requirements (5 service points) Benefits: Honors title on resume, wear an honors cord at graduation, name recommended to Pre-health evaluation committee, stronger med school committee letter III.Nationally Inducted Member: 3.3 GPA requirement (Cumulative and science GPA), one time fee Benefits: Become a member of the national Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical honors society, access to scholarships and all other national opportunities,

7 I am a Freshman, what should I do now? Get involved from the start! You can get 4 full years of local honors membership Make Penn State feel a little smaller by making a new group of friends! Meet fellow classmates Meet upper classmen “mentors” who can help with advice for the Penn State experience

8 How can Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors stay involved? Be actively involved in a committee Help w/ Events – BloodCup – THON – Public Health Fair Attend a Social

9 What are meetings all about? Speakers -Hear about the careers, glory, and struggle of the medical field from real physicians, etc. -Insight into medical schools/prep Committees/ Service -These make the club work! -Community service is an integral part of AED Preparation - Learn what it takes to be a health professional and develop personal goals.

10 Why attend meetings? Speakers (Networking) Fellow students Important Information – Learn of Events on Campus Get to know us!!! FUN!

11 What can we expect from AED this year? THON BLOOD CUP – PSU/MSU challenge HOMECOMING PUBLIC HEALTH FAIR COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENTS SOCIALS AN OVERALL GOOD TIME!
