Scientific notation takes the form of M x 10 n. n represents the number of decimal places to be moved. 4 Ex. 84,000 = 8.4 x 10 4 = 8.4 x 10 x10 x 10 x 10 A positive n represents a lager number. Very large and very small numbers are often expresssed in scientific notation.
