Tracking Network EA Model

Focus of Tracking Network EA Technology Standardization and Reuse Interoperability Data Sharing Overall Program Efficiency and Effectiveness

Technology Standardization and Reuse Standards based approach that promotes and facilitates Technology Standardization and Reuse with a philosophy of first Reuse, then Buy, then Build.  Technology Standardization Standard Health Information Contract Language (Included in Current Tracking Network Contracts) American Health Information Communities (AHIC) Use Cases Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) Interoperability Specifications  Reuse Reuse of GIS capabilities (NCEH GRASP) Selected COTS product - Business Objects Web Intelligence Built Row Level Security to fit specific business need

Interoperability Consistent methodology and technology for interoperating within CDC and with State Grantees and Federal partners.  PHIN MS for data transfer  Secure Data Network (SDN) for authentication  XML for importing and exporting metadata  XML Schemas for defining the contract for data feeds from partners to CDC (Will go from CDC to partners in the near future)

Data Sharing Evolution, adoption and exposure of data and vocabulary standards that provide semantic consistency for the Tracking Program.  Use of FIPS Codes and ICD-9 Codes where possible  PHIN VADS Vocabulary Web Services into a future version of the Metadata Creation Tool  EPA’s Exchange Network for receiving data from one of our Federal Partners, the EPA  Use of XML for importing and exporting metadata  Use of XML Schemas for defining the contract for data feeds from partners to CDC (Will go from CDC to partners in the near future)

Overall Program Efficiency and Effectiveness Leverage work that has already been done, simplify systems development and take advantage of economies of scale.  Use of PHIN MS for data transfer  Used FGDC template to derive Metadata Template  Proven JAVA frameworks (i.e. Spring, Hibernate and Strut) used for development in a timely fashion while promoting best practices

Use Cases Interoperability Specifications Summary Technology Standardization And Reuse Interoperability Overall Program Efficiency and Effectiveness American Health Information Community Priorities (AHIC) Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network Data Sharing

Next Steps EA Initiatives  ONC/OMB Health Information Technology Survey  HHS Systems Inventory Initiative  Segment Architecture – Health Monitoring Continued Alignment to applicable AHIC Use Cases and HITSP Interoperability Specifications  Business Process Refinement Continued Integration of the planning, management, and governance of Tracking Network activities into an architecture that is aligned with the CDC EA, HHS EA, and the Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA)
