3 PILOT PROJECT - TEACHER TRAINING IN EDC/HRE: HOW TO DEVELOP STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO EVALUATE INFORMATION FROM MEDIA AND SOCIAL NETWORKS? Four countries were involved : Belarus Georgia Lithuania Russian Federation Belarus: The Academy of Post diploma (postgraduate) Education Georgia: National Centre for Teacher Professional Development under the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia Lithuania: Ministry of Education, Conflict Prevention Association Russian Federation: Russian Academy for Teachers’ Qualifications Improvement

4 To ensure sustainable development of education for democratic citizenship To empower teachers with knowledge and skills for working in an environment influenced by media and social networks; Based on the outcomes of the Pilot Project “Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education: a diversity of approaches” implemented in 2013, to provide teachers with in–service training programme and methodological tools necessary for creative work; To help students to critically evaluate media and social networks information. OBJECTIVES:

5 MAIN TOPICS Belarus: Multicultural education in the system of interaction between educational institutions and the media; Cultural adaptation and social integration of migrants and refugees; Preventing online youth violence. Georgia: Intercultural communication How to use internet to promote antidiscrimination Hate speech Lithuania: The culture of communication online, its violations and consequences Information online: can one really believe all the information published online? Internet control and censorship: oppression or necessity? Russian Federation: Intercultural education Voting online Financial literacy

6 ACTIVITIES Analyzing legal documents in the field of education, training programs and educational resources of partner countries. Organisation of 3 project-lessons per country, on a topic selected for a country in accord with the Project objectives. Organisation of in–service teacher training seminars in Belarus, Georgia, Lithuania, and the Russian Federation and field testing of material in schools with groups of about 25 students in each country. Piloting and evaluation of the in-service training programme.

7 LEGISLATIVE REGULATIONS, NORMATIVE ACTS, CURRICULUM National legislative regulations ; The National Curriculums; General professional standards; Recommendations issued by international bodies in charge of education; Codes of ethics ; Civil codes.

8 METHODOLOGICAL TOOL WITHIN THE PROJECT The methodological tool used in the Project was comprised of a theoretical article and 3 practical project-lessons prepared by each country. As a result, a practical resource for teachers was developed on the following topics:

Responsibility for violations of ethical and legal norms in Cyberspace 2. Information online: can one really believe all the information published online? 2. I. To what extent can one trust the information published online? II. Should the truth be published in any case? 3. Internet control and censorship: oppression or necessity? 3. I. Restriction of information and censorship II. Ways of restricting Internet information and different techniques to bypass these restrictions
