Activity 1.Grab the typed slip of paper out of your envelope. 2.In 1 minute, write the code on a card. 3.Put the slip of paper back in the envelope, and label your card, “copy 1”. 4.Put “copy 1” back in the envelope. 5.Pass the envelope to the person at your left. 6.Pull out copy 1 from the envelope. 7.Write the code on a new card and label that card “copy 2” 8.We will continue this process until there are 8 copies in each envelope.

2. Activity Now look at your original envelope. Pull out the slip with the original code on it, and “copy 8”. Note the following errors on copy 8. – Any missing letters. (draw an arrow where it should be) – Any mis-matched letters. (circle) – Any extra letters. (underline)

3. Deletions, Insertions and Substitutions On your own, read pg. 373 and answer the following questions: – What is a substitution? – What is a insertions? – What is a deletion? – Which can cause the most dramatic changes in a DNA sequence? – What is another name for insertions and deletions?
