1 REVISED PROFORMA FOR MEASUREMENT OF POINT & CROSSING

3 Why revision is required?
As per existing proforma, time required for inspection is minimum one hour, hence it is very difficult to complete the schedules. Much more emphasis to be given on evaluation of data rather than noting down mechanical measurements. Many items in existing proforma are not relevant.

4 Why revision is required?
Some of the items of existing proforma are very difficult to measure at site (Example: Ballast cushion, tongue rail wear, Exact Gauge and cross levels in switch portion etc.) In existing proforma, Turn in curve is not covered properly which is derailment prone.

5 Advantages after revision
Total items have been reduced from 112 to 78 which will reduce the inspection time from one hour to 40 minutes. Safety is ensured by the items kept in revised proforma. All the items are feasible and easy to be measured at site.

6 Advantages after revision
Correct evaluation after measurement can be done and the factors responsible for bad track geometry can be ascertained. This will help in completing the schedule of inspection by field engineers with a greater degree of seriousness.

7 Items proposed to be deleted from existing proforma
Item No. Description Reason 3. Availability of: a) Ballast in shoulders and cribs. b) Clean ballast cushion It is already covered in Item No-2 & it is not feasible to measure clean ballast cushion during inspection.

8 Contd…. 4.(d & e) Vertical & lateral wear of T-Rail at 13 mm Head width and at the same level point with the stock rail. Before it crosses the limit of vertical & lateral wear at these locations, it will already show the symptoms at toe within one meter (knife edge/chipped).

9 Contd… 7. c. Gauge at 150 mm behind ATS.
As per design of profiling of Tongue Rail, at this location, top of the T-Rail is more than 13mm below the top of stock rail. Hence this can not be measured theoretically.

10 Contd…. 12 (b) Versines of Curved tongue Rail
Versine of curved T-Rail can not be taken correctly if T-Rail is not housed properly up to the JOH as practically experienced in different yards. 17. Distance between gauge faces of stock rails at JOH: This is already included vide S. No. 7 (e) of old proforma.

11 Clean ballast cushion in turn in curve.
Contd… 18. Distance between web to web of tongue rails at respective stretcher bar locations: It is relevant at the time of laying of new point. Afterwards it will not change hence not required to be measured in every inspection. 30. (ii) Clean ballast cushion in turn in curve. It is not practically possible to measure clean ballast cushion during inspection.

(2) Locations where the gauge and cross levels are to be checked should be painted on the web of the rail.
