5 Innovations Bid – Why Safeguarding for young people is different Our current model is reliant on a single professional view High number of young people coming into care with high needs – Section 20 (Voluntary Accommodation) Outcomes for young people coming into care as teenagers are poor Too much social worker time spent on assessment and not enough on intervention Service led approach rather than family led Too many individuals and services involved overwhelming families You’ve told us

6 What are we seeking to achieve? Redesign and reshaped front door – including short courses? Multi-disciplinary assessment and formulation that is tested, reviewed and informs planning and sequencing of work with a family Work is family led with ownership of plans resting with the young person and family Multi-disciplinary teams as standard To design and implement a clear underpinning theory of practice which will be based on a ‘risk, resilience and hazards model’ recognising that young peoples experiences, ways of becoming safe and changing their lives differ significantly from younger children To understand the type of organisation that should wrap around these arrangements

7 Who will be involved? Social Care – all families with children over 11 or where the primary issue is related to adolescence – Stella Potente 2gether NHS Foundation Trust – TBC – Sarah Batten Prospects – Youth Support Team – Rob England
