8 8 Timeline of the Selection Process and the Fellowship

9 9 Financial Benefits ●Fellowship amount of 2,150 EUR, 2,450 EUR or 2,750 EUR per month, depending on the respective qualification and professional experience ●Allowance for overhead costs (500 EUR per month) to the host in Germany ●Various allowances (e.g. lump sum for travel costs and benefits for accompanying family members) ●A Europe allowance for a stay of one to two months in another European country (except country of origin)

10 10 Fellowship Components ●Orientation day immediately following the selection meeting in Bonn (April/May) ●Intensive German language course (July/August to September) ●Introductory seminar in Bonn and Berlin: social, political, business and cultural life in Germany (October) ●Individual project period at hosts in Germany (November-September) ●Participation in the Humboldt Foundation’s annual meeting in Berlin with a reception hosted by the Federal President of Germany (June) ●Two-week study tour through Germany (April) ●Final meeting in Berlin with a reception in the Federal Chancellery (July) ●Extensive alumni sponsorship following successful completion of the fellowship

11 11 Application Requirements ●Citizenship of one of the target countries ●A Bachelor’s or comparable academic degree ●Leadership potential ●Either English or German language skills ●Letter of motivation (approx. 2 pages) ●Project plan (approx. 3 pages) ●Confirmed host (statement) ●Two letters of recommendation ●Applicants who have been in Germany for more than six months at the time of the application deadline (15 September) are not eligible to apply. ●Applications must be submitted through our online application system.

12 12 Advice on finding a host ●Anyone who works for a public or private institution in Germany can be a host. ●The host must have a discipline-related or professional link to the project. ●Applicants should start their search for a host as early as possible (July and August = primary summer holiday season in Germany). ●Sources of assistance with the search for a host: -Humboldt-Foundation.de/youngleaders: a letter for potential hosts, lists of possible host institutions in Germany -Alumni association of German Chancellor Fellows -German companies and organisations in Brazil, India, China, the USA and Russia -One’s own professional and personal contacts

13 13 Requirements for Projects ●Preferably in the fields of politics, public administration, business, society or culture ●Must have been designed by the applicant ●Must be feasible to complete the project during the fellowship ●Discussed and agreed upon with the host in Germany ●Conducive to advancing the fellow’s career
