15 When evaluating the quality, accuracy and reliability of a web site, check these basic points: Author or Contact person or Institution – usually located in the header or footer Copyright Date – usually located in the footer Date of creation or revision – usually located in footer Link to local home page – usually located in either header or footer Domain – the last segment of the "root" of the URL (for example, http://www.berry.edu) http://www.berry.edu Intended audience (Who is it meant for?) – determined by examining the body Purpose of the information (Is the majority of the text/site valuable to your purpose?) – determined by examining the body NO Blogs (Comments) or Wikis! – Do not ever source Wikipedia in a research paper; it is a combination of people’s opinion rather than proven opinion Appearance – If there are too many advertisements, too much color, or too many pictures and not enough text than it is a good bet that this is a homemade site that is personally biased.
