Weight O 1 – GWM Less than 750kg (1’650lb) Unbraked Single Axle O 2 – GWM More than 750kg (1’650lb) less than 3’500kg (7’716lb) Mechanical brake (over-run type) Multiple Axle

Length, Width, Height Width: Maximum 2.5m (8.2ft) Height: Lesser 1.8 x Track Width or 3m (9.8ft) Length: 22m (72ft) combination of tow vehicle and trailer

Weight Complications The maximum weight for a trailer would be 3’500kg but this is more governed by the weight of the tow vehicle. For mechanical braked trailers / caravans: The tare of the tow car must be equal or greater than the GVM of the over-run braked trailer / caravan. The maximum allowable weight of a mechanically braked trailer is 3’500kg. For un-braked trailers: The tare of the tow car must be at least twice the GVM of the un-braked trailer. An un-braked trailer can have a maximum GVM of 750kg. Tare: The empty weight of the caravan / trailer as built with all permanent fixtures included (excluding the tent & poles). GVM:The maximum overall weight the caravan / trailer may weigh as determined by the manufacturer of the trailer and homologated with the NRCS. When the trailer has electric, hydraulic or pneumatic brakes fitted, the weight ratio between the tow vehicle and the trailer is no longer applicable. However the GCM (Gross Combination Mass) rule would start to come into play here with the vehicle manufacturer specifying the GCM of the trailer and the tow vehicle.

Tow Ball / Coupler – 50 mm (2”) ball coupler and ball used across whole industry. – SANS1505 -1,2,3 provide all the standard around the ball and coupler. – Tow Ball height of between 350 – 420 mm (13.8” to 16.5”)

Tow Hitch Weight on Tow ball – Minimum 25kg (55lb) – Maximum 100kg (220lb) Is there a ratio requirement between Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) and hitch weight? – No – But you need to keep the nose weight within this specification and comply with the rear overhang ratio. – Rule of thumb – 10% of GVM for a good tow

Trailer Articulation Clearance

Minimum payload of a caravan GVM less TARE is PAYLOAD PAYLOAD to exceed 15% of GVM – Plus 15kg for LPG Gas

Motor homes Width Max 2.5m (8.2ft) Length Max 15m (50ft) Height Max 4.3m (14.1ft) Seat Belt Test

LPG Gas Requirements Cylinders to be secure in all directions Ventilated to outside at 4% or 10’000mm 2 (15inch 2 ) Max 2m long flexible hose Access to bottles from outside the sleeping compartment SANS 10087-1 & SANS 10087-2 LPG Gas Safety Association

Fire Extinguishers 1kg (2.2lb) Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers Adjacent to main entry door.

Compliance Requirements Homologate new product with National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) Check compliance to standards Introduce into eNaTIS system Routinely audit factory to ensure continuous compliance

Electrical Wiring Housing Standard Appliances have own standard. Need to meet gas and electrical compliance
