3 The School Day Arrive 8:45 Challenge/Registration 8.45-9.10 Morning 9.10-12.30 Lunch 12.30-1.30 Afternoon 1.30-3.30

4 New Reading Record To help the children in Year 5 organise themselves in preparation for Secondary School we have introduced a new school reading record. Children can use this to write homework and spellings. Please feel free to record your views/opinions within their Reading Record as a way of communicating with staff in school.

5 Literacy and Numeracy Two groups arranged according to confidence and support. Mrs Ashton and Mr Hook Group 1 Literacy/ Mrs Ashton, Mr Hook and Miss Plant Group 2 Numeracy. Mr Backrath and Miss Plant Group 2 Literacy and Mr Backrath group 1 Numeracy. Three morning lessons (Monday – Wednesday) One afternoon session (Wednesday)

6 Additional Support Springboard – Numeracy based intervention Comprehension Club – Reading intervention Parents will be informed if their child is taking part in Springboard or Comprehension groups

7 Homework Given out on Wednesday Handed in by the following Tuesday. Homework Club – Monday lunchtime 1pm. MyMaths.co.uk – additional learning tool Bug Club- Literacy HW What if they do not hand their homework in on time? ◦Children attend homework club on Monday lunchtime ◦If not handed in by Monday 3.30pm, children complete homework during their breaktime/lunchtime. Termly Creative homework – project based, independent research

8 Thursday Thursday morning ◦Two groups split equally ◦Swap between:  Specialist sports coach – Nigel Gadd  Forest Arts Music Lessons – brass and woodwind The children will perform in a termly music concert for parents, details to follow.

9 Creative Curriculum Friday- New Curriculum for 2014 Autumn term – Here we go to Mexico! Spring Term – Scandimania! Summer Term – The Ancient Greeks (For one year only!) We try, where possible, to organise a school trip or activity day each term to consolidate the learning undertaken in class.

11 Years 5/6 Productions This year, Year 5 will perform a Summer production for the school and parents/guardians. This will be separate to the Year 6 Leavers’ production. Foundation Stage and Years 1/2 - Christmas play Years 3/4 – Spring production Years 5/6 – Summer productions

12 School Uniform Plain white polo shirt Purple Lindens jumper Grey trousers or skirt Black, Grey or white socks Black or grey tights Black sensible shoes Sensible hair styles/accessories No make up or nail varnish No jewellery except for wristwatch, stud earrings or religious items

13 PE kit Plain white t-shirt Black shorts Trainers and pumps (indoor and outdoor) Plain tracksuit (grey, black or navy blue) Girls hair tied up Remove jewellery Boot bag for dirty boots/trainers

14 Equipment Pencil tin with a pencil, handwriting pen, ruler and rubber. Water bottle (No longer sold at school) Wet play equipment School bags – Lindens book bags only PE bag – drawstring PE bag Please ensure that all your child’s belongings have their name on. Memory stick (optional)– for use in ICT suite

15 PGL – Sept Every year pupils at the beginning of Year 6 are given the opportunity to attend PGL. PGL is a residential weekend taking place in September next year in Tregoyd, Wales. Forms are due out in October/November for year 5 to attend PGL in September 2014.
