2 Creating Your Map Directions 1. Using a regular lead pencil - Trace the latitude and longitude lines onto your large white sheet using the sample created for you. Use pp. A2 & A3 in your textbook 2. Using a regular lead pencil – label the outer edges of the sheet with the appropriate latitude and longitude markings (example: 120) *Note – the very center spot on your paper is the 0/Equator spot 3. Using a regular lead pencil…begin with the center box and draw the continents on your map (do this one box at a time) 4. Once you have sketched in the entire map – you will color each of the following continents listed below with the appropriate color (use only colored pencils) North America – purple Europe – red South America – green Africa – yellow Asia – pink all of the water – blue all other unlabeled land - brown Maps for Labeling: World Map pp. A4-A5, Europe in the East pg. 100 Americas pp. 117, 121, & 130 Triangle of Trade pg. 134 Creating and coloring the map: Label each of the items below with a regular lead pencil. 3 P olitical Aspects of Exploration Key Vocabulary Associated with this area: conquistadorviceroy interdependence encomiendas Map Directions: Use the explorers maps in your book on pages 100, 121, and the map on pp. A2 &A3 to help you with this section. Dias 1487-1488 This is the symbol you will draw on the line route for each explorer that you label on the map. Include the year on the sails and the name of the explorer on the boat. (you may have to write the dates out to the side if they won’t fit on the sail) Dias – in brown – draw his route starting in Europe and going to the Cape of Good Hope on the southern tip of Africa and return to Europe Da Gama – in brown dashes – draw his route from Europe around Africa, to Asia and back to Europe Columbus – in red dashes– draw his route from Europe to the West Indies and back to Europe Magellan – in red – draw his route from Europe down the coast of South America through the Philippine Islands down around the southern tip of Africa and back to Europe Cartier – in green – draw his route from Europe to Newfoundland Hudson – in orange – draw his route from Europe into the Norwegian Sea and over to the lower area near Newfoundland Create a legend (and color w/appropriate colors) in your left margin that looks like this: Routes by Countries Portugal (brown) Spain (red) France (green) The Netherlands(orange)
