If you want to know what you can do with your property today, check the Zoning Ordinance. General Plan Sets long-term goals and establishes the location and density of land uses Zoning Ordinance Specific standards and regulations on individual properties to implement the goals of the General Plan

11 Housing Element  One of the seven mandated elements  Different from other elements: Subject to detailed statutory requirements and must be updated on regular basis  Must be reviewed by the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for compliance  2013-2021 (Fifth Cycle) Housing Element – Deadline October 1, 2013

12 Housing Element Contents  Current and future housing needs assessment Special needs populations – Elderly, disabled (including developmentally disabled), homeless, large households, female-headed households, and farmworkers  Future residential growth opportunities  Housing constraints Governmental, market, environmental, and infrastructure  Housing programs to address housing needs With quantified objectives for new construction, rehabilitation, and conservation of housing
