Super Sleuths Showing how species are connected to one another and their habitats

9/26/14 Super Sleuths Key Question: In an ecosystem, how are species connected to one another and their habitats? Initial Thoughts:

Evidence: Puzzles  Fold the hand out in half (Pollination Puzzle on top)  Tape the spine into your journal.

Plants

Animals as pollinators

Seed Dispersal

Prairie Food Web  Use the clues to construct the food web.  Arrows point towards the organism EATING. Energy goes TO the organism doing the eating.  USE A FULL PAGE FOR YOUR FOOD WEB Q: Would you say rattlesnakes depend on the sun for food? Why or why not?

Challenge - What are the prairie's:  Producers:  Consumers:  Decomposers:

Analysis Questions 1. Where does the energy in an ecosystem originally come from? 2. What are some ways that plants have developed to interact with biotic and abiotic factors in their environment? 3. What would happen to the prairie food web if there were no worms, fungi, beetles, and bacteria?

Summary What did you think before this lesson (look at your initial thoughts)? What did you learn about interactions between organisms in an ecosystem (from this lesson)? ( Minimum of 4 sentences!!!) What are some further thoughts or questions you have about interactions between organisms in an ecosystem?

Reflection Write a letter to the editor, explaining why it is important to keep our ecosystems healthy.

Big Idea  Organisms interact with their environment through camouflage and supplying each other with food, protection and shelter.
