Theme Topic One word or idea that the text conveys: Innocence Love Rage Greed Jealousy

Theme A full theme must be a complete statement. What universal lesson/message(s) does the text teach? Theme topic + message= THEME

Theme Topic: Love We can only love others when we learn to love ourselves. Love can help a person overcome insurmountable obstacles.

“All Summer” Themes Jealousy can drive individuals to be hurtful to those they envy. Individuals are forced to face the consequences of their actions. (Saying I am sorry cannot undo the damage that has been done) Guilt will damper a person’s happiness. (Doing something bad may feel “good” in the moment, but it will not feel good in the long run. If you do a bad act in order to accomplish something, you will not end up able to enjoy it).

“All Summer” Themes People often bully others because they are different. People often bully those they envy. Something that starts out as a harmless joke/prank can end up in tragedy. We often perform uncharacteristically bad actions when we are in a group because we want to be a part of the group.

THEME Guilt will damper a person’s happiness.
