5. Goal of HRSA -16-071 Increase the number of Advance Practice Nurses (APRN) trained as primary care Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Nurse Midwifes. Training must emphasize the integration of primary health care into rural/underserved clinical practice. Increase the number of NP receiving experiential primary care training through community partnerships. Ensure a culturally competent workforce by recruiting and providing tuition and stipend support to trainees who are (1) committed to serving underserved and/or rural populations and/or (2) represent the diversity of the population being served. 5

Funding Preference and Special Consideration Statutory Funding Preference will be given to applicants with projects that will substantially benefit rural or underserved populations, or help meet public health nursing needs in State or local health departments. Based on high median rate of program graduates employed in the above settings Special Consideration will be applied to any eligible entity that agrees to expend the award to train advanced education nurses who will practice in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).
