Feelings and colors– model only can be changed! _______________ is __________ like_______ (feeling)(color) and also like______________________ It __________through my _____________ (verb)(mind, room) It reminds me of the time_______________ It makes me feel__________or/like__________ It makes me want to ________________

Examples of color poems Peace is white like a single snowflake drifting to the ground. Boredom is gray like a dull day It sits on a shelf Like a can of cat food waiting to be bought Anger is red like tomato soup bubbling over on the stove.

“Rules “ for writing poetry 1.Don’t worry about spelling 2.Don’t worry about being neat 3.Don’t worry about erasing 4.Don’t worry about rhyme Poets and painters chose colors very carefully because they know how powerful they are. I’m going to ask you to choose colors to use in your poems.

Like What….? Color like Hot like Cold like Sounds like Tastes like Smells like Looks like Texture like Moves like

Anger Anger can be: Red like tomato sauce boiling over on the stove Gray like a storm cloud Cold like icicles hanging from gutters Cold like someone who won’t talk to you Smells like a skunk Tastes like rotten eggs Slithers like a cobra through my brain giving me poisonous thoughts Rough as sandpaper; sharp as porcupine quills

Like what… object in the room Write in the same format as you did for the “like what” poem on a color/emotion but this time pick an object in the room and follow the format to write the poem again.

Example of Like what… object Book Bag The Book Bag is rectangular It is gray and dirty like my father’s socks. It is a smooth object With an oval entrance like a mouth Waiting to eat my homework. It reminds me of myself eating.

Like What poem… #3 object in your house/room Loud like a freight train Pertruse is it’s color Makes my ears burn like a hot fire Tastes like brussel sprouts Looks like a portal into the underworld Moves like a snake in the grass A time waster TV

Portrait of someone else My sister’s eyes are hazel like green grass in a field. My sister’s hair is like curly vines on a small forest floor. My sister’s heart hold sadness like a purple dragon My sister lives in a mall and eat all the stuff.

Inside This Inside this…. 6 or more lines including vivid language Example: Inside This Dictionary Inside this dictionary there are trillons of words, like somebody who can’t stop talking. The dictionary goes on and on like a line that never stops. Inside this dictionary live little people with orange skin. They know the meaning of every word in the whole universe.

Go inside Go inside a ________________________ See its_________________like_____________ Perhaps you’ll find_______________ Perhaps____________________ Example: Go inside a stone That would be my way. Let somebody else become a dove or gnash with a tiger’s tooth. I am happy to be a stone. I have seen sparks fly out when two stones are rubbed, So perhaps it is not dark inside after all, Perhaps there is a moon shining from somewhere, as though behind a hill.
