10 NHSC? What is the NHSC?  The NHSC has 3,800 clinicians in service  About 4 million people receive health care from NHSC clinicians  There are more than 9,000 job vacancies for NHSC primary care medical, dental and mental health clinicians 10

20 Shana Kaplan works as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Community Health of East Tennessee (formerly REACHS) and is originally from Massachusetts. She holds a BA in Journalism from New York University. She received her Registered Nurse degree from Middlesex School in Concord, MA, and earned her Master of Science in Nursing from MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA in 2009. During this time she was selected for an NHSC Search program and was placed at Community Health of East Tennessee. Ms. Kaplan decided to return to Tennessee following completion of her studies. She was selected as a National Health Service Corps Loan Repayor in 2010 and is currently participating in the program. She volunteers as a mentor with Amachi Knoxville.

21 Darryl Adams works as an Advanced Practice Nurse at the Grundy County Health Department and is originally from Albany, LA. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1998 and her Master of Science in Nursing in 2005 at Southeastern Louisiana University. Ms. Adams was selected as a National Health Service Corps Loan Repayor and has participated in the program from 2009 to present. For the past 4 ½ years, Ms. Adams has been a provider for primary care, family planning, the STD program, and the Tennessee Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program for the communities in and around Grundy County. She is a member of the Tennessee Public Health Association, Tennessee State Employee’s Association, and is the representative for the Southeast Region on the APN Practice Committee.
