Distance learning is a method of studying in which lectures are broadcasted or classes are conducted by correspondence or over the Internet, without students needing to attend a school or college. Also called distance education.

Internet based early childhood curriculum, middle school, high school, and college based courses. Distance learning can also be activities students can complete for practice away from the classroom such as study island. Students can also complete internet games that have education value. Most classrooms will have computers or labs I think this could be categorized as distance learning away from the core curriculum. Lastly programs such as Skype can be used in the classroom to aid in culture differences.

Youth Talk A program for secondary school students designed to promote mutual understanding between youth in the United States, and the Middle East and North Africa. Year long virtual education program Designed by Global Nomads Group

Goals of Youth Talk Goal of the program is to: – Build cultural awareness – Global citizenship – Learn skills needed to build positive relationships between the US, Middle East, and North Africa Activities include: – Virtual exchanges – Project-based learning – cross-cultural collaboration Supports educators through professional development sessions, and on-going staff support.

In my school one of the greatest examples I saw of this question was the students were learning about Egyptian children from the past and today. The students completed distance learning at home while completing study island. They also had time to interact with distance learning on the computers to further the education value. Then the students had an opportunity to Skype with a child from Egypt. The students had a chance to talk about how there lives are different and the same from the different culture. Melanie Liddy
