Gateways Home Introduction In telecommunications networking, a home gateway allows the connection of a local area network (LAN) to a wide area network (WAN). The term home gateway was originally used to distinguish the inexpensive networking devices designated for use in the home from similar devices used in corporate LAN environments (which generally offered a greater array of capabilities).

The home gateway tends to have abundant interfaces, powerful functions and a moreuser-friendly interface. It is a manageable terminal with auto-configuration, and multi-service perceiving and bearing. The home gateway provides Quality of Service to simultaneously support different types of services. As a part of the carrier network, the home gateway supports remote control, detection and configuration.

Motorola's Connected Home Gateway Enter Motorola's new Connected Home Gateway, price RM 320 for the connected home, in a box. Powerful processing and 4Home technology come together to deliver the connected home the way it was meant to be smart and simple. Adding connected home services such as home control, home security and energy management has never been easier for consumers and service providers. Motorola Connected Home Gateway, which handles the complexity of today's home networks as well as the traditional obstacles of service installation and maintenance. All consumers have to do is plug in the gateway, and the unit automatically connects their home control devices to the home network.

Continue.. Now, with just the push of a button, the devices in the home can be paired wirelessly and connected to the cloud for remote management on a host of devices. And connected home services can be added, managed and troubleshot on the fly. This is achieved with a powerful 1.2 GHz processor running Motorola's open 4Home software platform, which supports and abstracts a host of standards and protocols, hiding the complexity of multiple disparate devices on the home network. It also allows consumers to access their homes remotely, from a smartphone, tablet or PC.

ViVidWireless Gateway Home Vividwireless gave technology media in Sydney a test run of its WiMax network. Vividwireless' USB modem costs RM 220, which is more expensive than most USB or dongle alternatives, but its prepaid data plans trump its competitors. With vividwireless you would pay RM20 for 1GB of data, RM40 for 3GB, RM55 for 5GB and RM80 for 10GB. The data allowance must be used within 30 days. It's also offering contract packages, which are not covered here. Its home gateway product, which also acts as a wireless modem, costs RM100 upfront. Prepaid options range from RM20 for 1GB of data to RM100 per month for 20GB of data.

Vividwireless has also prepared a booster for users on the fringe of its network or where there is poor reception. Its "USB modem booster" is being sold for RM90. As shown below a user would plug the USB dongle into the booster to deal with poor coverage. The home gateway and wireless modem

In contrast, Telstra's USB modem goes for RM30 while its prepay Turbo modem costs RM120. Its data allowances at the low end offer 225MB for RM15 per month, 2GB for RM30 and 4GB for RM50. Of course, Telstra does offer national coverage, whereas vividwireless for the time being will be limited to urban centres. The booster, for areas with poor coverage

Gateway Enterprise Allo.com Gateway(VoIP PRI) RM 540 Stand Alone, powerful voice gateway supports up to 55 simultaneous calls on PSTN/IP link and 5 VoIP registration & VoIP Trunks. No additional licenses required for codec transcoding or web interface.

Continue.. VoIP PRI Gateways ranging from 1 to 2 PRI ports developed to enable direct connection of VoIP traffic to the PSTN / fixed line ISDN for extending communications and reducing call charges.

Continue.. Key Features E1/T1 PRI Gateway; up to 2 SPAN interface. Built In Firewall Flexible Call Routing Transcoding (Voice coding G.711 A-law/u-law, G.722 G.729AB) licenses included. Fax Pass-through. Stand Alone with Web User Interface. 128 ms DSP based Echo Cancellation

continue Additional Features Up to 55 simultaneous VoIP to ISDN PRI calls 2 T1/E1/J1 PRI ports with programmable NET/CPE modes Support SIP v2 (RFC 3261 complaint) Register with multiple SIP service providers ISDN network clock synchronization for error-free communication Interoperable with all the major-brand soft switches and IP-PBXs PIN authentication for accessing Trunks to prevent unauthorized usage Call detail records Web-based configuration and management

Compare home and enterprise wireless gateway Enterprise wireless gateway : Expensive than Home wireless gateway high-end performance and reliability High performance broadband Internet connectivity User configurable Parental Control blocks access to undesirable Internet sites Allows automatic software upgrades by your service provider Additional features of Enterprise wireless gateway makes it is higher in price compared to Home wireless gateway.

Conclusion A node on a network that serves as an entrance to another network. In enterprises, the gateway is the computer that routes the traffic from a workstation to the outside network that is serving the Web pages. In homes, the gateway is the ISP that connects the user to the Internet. In enterprises, the gateway node often acts as a proxy server and a firewall. The gateway is also associated with both a router, which use headers and forwarding tables to determine where packets are sent, and a switch, which provides the actual path for the packet in and out of the gateway.
