3 What are National Occupational Standards? National: apply to all four nations Occupational: define key functions someone should be able to carry out in an occupation Standards: statements of effective performance (Skills and Knowledge)

5 NOS: CD Develop and apply understanding of theory and effective practice in career development Build and maintain relationships with individuals to ensure a client-centred approach to career development Support individuals to identify and explore their career development needs and aspirations Enable individuals to set appropriate goals and career development objectives Deliver individual and group development through career-related learning Enable individuals to use and apply information for career development Provide ongoing support to help individuals achieve their career goals and development objectives Help individuals evaluate their progress and achievement and plan for the future Lead and manage career development work in an organisation Improve services to individuals by collaborating with others Enable individuals to access referral opportunities Represent individuals’ needs to others Plan and design the service offer Promote the availability, value and effectiveness of the service offer Monitor, evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the service offer Plan and undertake research on behalf of the service Reflect on, develop and maintain own skills and practice in career development

15 Different Roles based on NOS First Contact Support Practitioner Specialist Practitioner Research/Technical Manager Senior Manager Specialist Role Role descriptions: based on NOS:CD and where appropriate, NOS: Leadership and Management functions Using the functions shows where the same ones are used in different roles = career mobility Level at which the role is carried out is determined by functions performed and qualification level

16 Additional Information Qualifications show how a person can progress through the Pathway and meet the qualification requirement for the UK Register Resources Pack under development to explain how employers can use the NOS:CD Link to the new Portico Job Board

17 UK Register of Career Development Professionals Register is the sector equivalent of Chartered Status Over 1000 Registrants Proof that you hold a QCF Level 6/ SCQF Level 11 or above qualification Adherence to the Code of Ethics 25 hours CPD requirement Use of the post nominal RCDP and logo to confirm and promote registered status.
