Presentation Title Presented by Joe Blow Industrial Purge Valve Training

On Today’s Agenda How It Works Where/When It’s Recommended Pros and Cons Construction Materials/Options Valve troubleshooting and demo

Purge Options AutoPurge Ball Valve (ABV) AutoPurge Fail-Safe Pneumatic Ball Valve (AFS) Electric Actuated Pinch Valve (AKE) AutoPurge Pneumatic Pinch Valve (APP) Purge Liquid Concentrator (APC) SmartPurge Automatic Sensor

AutoPurge Ball Valve (ABV) How it works Valve open/close according to the program of the LAKOS controller. Electricity require for the controller. Where it’s recommended PPM less than 1,000 River water, well water, cooling water application Low to mild abrasive solids such as sand, silt, dirt, airborne debris, etc. Pros Low cost Dependability Fairly easy to use

AutoPurge Ball Valve (ABV) con’t Cons Not fail-safe (stays in current position during power outage) Does not handle high solids loading Actuation time…takes min. 12 seconds to open and close. Construction Ball valve: Brass body, 316 SS ball, TFE seat Actuator: Die cast aluminum housing Options: Carbon steel, 316 SS or Alloy 20 ball valve

AutoPurge Fail-Safe Pneumatic Ball Valve (AFS) How it works Valve open/close according to the program of the LAKOS controller. Electricity require for the controller. Where it’s recommended When solids loading is less than 1,000 ppm River water, well water, cooling water application Low to mild abrasive solids such as sand, silt, dirt, airborne debris, etc. Pros Fail-safe (valve close upon loss of power/air) Good timing range

AutoPurge Fail-Safe Pneumatic Ball Valve (AFS) Cons Limited solids loading 90 degrees open/close Requires both electricity and air to operate Construction All stainless steel (316SS), TFE ball valve seat

Electric Actuated Pinch Valve (AKE) How it works Valve open/close according to the program of the LAKOS controller. Electricity require for the controller. Where it’s recommended Highly abrasive solids when air is not available (situations when ball valve would fail) Pros Only needs electricity (requires no air) Easily serviced

Electric Actuated Pinch Valve (AKE) con’t Cons Cost Limited to service pressure max. 125 psi Actuation time min. 12 seconds to open and close. Construction Pinch valve: Vinyl ester-Fiberglass body and EPDM liner Actuator: Die cast aluminum housing Options: Food grade or PTFE liner

AutoPurge Pneumatic Pinch Valve (APP) How it works Valve open/close according to the program of the LAKOS controller. Electricity require for the controller. Where it’s recommended All application when both air and electricity are available Pros Best timing (open and close immediately) Handles widest range of solids loading and type of solids Wide chemical and temperature range Failure rate almost zero

AutoPurge Pneumatic Pinch Valve (APP) Cons Requires maintenance since liner must be periodically replaced Max. pressure at separator inlet is 120 psi Min. 30 psi air source above line pressure to operate pinch valve w/ standard PGR liner, 60 psi for Viton and 40 psi for other liners. Pinch valve can operate up to 150 psi. Requires both electricity and air to operate Construction Cast aluminum body and PGR liner Options: Cast iron body; Neoprene, Buna-N, EPDM, Hypalon or Viton liner

Purge Liquid Concentrator (APC) How it works Valve open/close according to the program of the LAKOS controller. Electricity require for the controller. Where it’s recommended When liquid loss is a concern Pros Minimizes loss of liquid during purging by as much as 98%

Purge Liquid Concentrator (APC) con’t Cons Cost Capacity Space constraints 75 psi max. operating pressure at 110 degrees F. Construction Cast aluminum bodies and PGR (pure gum rubber) liners; glass (sight glass) Options: Cast iron body; Neoprene, Buna-N, EPDM or Viton liner

SmartPurge System How it works Valve open/close according to the solids sensing probe as well as program of the LAKOS controller. Electricity require for the controller. Where it’s recommended When liquid loss and purge valve life cycle is a concern Pros Eliminate the guesswork of when and how often to purge Minimize fluid loss Minimize wear and tear on the purge valve

SmartPurge System con’t Cons Cost 145 psi max. operating pressure at 176 degrees F. Construction 304 SS

In Summary… Ball valve is suitable for silt, sand, dirt, air-borne debris, etc and 1000 PPM or less. Pinch valve is suitable for all application with inlet pressure less than 120 PSI. Use purge valve with SmartPurge to eliminate guesswork of when to purge, minimize fluid loss, and minimize wear & tear on the purge valve.
