Exodus 25:1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Tell the Israelites to take an offering for me, and you are to accept my offering from every person whose heart moves him to give. ……….…………..

Tell the Israelites to take an offering for me ….. 8 And let them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. 9 Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you.

Make a sanctuary (a tabernacle) for me, and I will dwell among them. 22 There (in the Holy of Holies, above the ark of the Covenant) I will meet with you,

(22) and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel.

God 1. revealed Himself more fully, 2. provided for the forgiveness of sin, 3. made a way to have access into His presence, 4. gave needed leadership & direction.

Introduction to the Tabernacle

Most Holy Place (Holy of Holies) Holy Place Introduction to the Tabernacle

50 cubits 5 cubits 100 cubits The Court Fence  The measurements of the court fence: 100 cubits long (150 ft. or 46 m) 50 cubits wide (75 ft. or 23 m) 5 cubits high (7.5 ft. or 2.3 m)

The Gate

 The gate separated people from the magnificent and holy God.  God could only be approached with repentance and sacrifice when the people came inside the gate.

The Bronze Altar

 The Sacrifice was necessary for forgiveness A proper sacrifice was an animal that was valuable and perfect, not flawed. Sin was serious. Only shed blood which stands for life, could pay for sin. By laying his hand on it, the person identified with the animal sacrificed.

The Bronze Laver

 The bronze laver was used for ceremonial washing: Priests bathed their entire body when they were ordained. Following ordination, the priests had to wash their hands and feet every time they entered the tabernacle or approached the bronze altar to minister, or they would die.

The Golden Lampstand

 Made entirely of pure gold  The priest’s duty was to trim the wicks and keep the lamps lit.  The lampstand was designed to provide light for the tabernacle.  The lampstand served as a reminder of God’s glory, His holiness, and His light.

Table of Showbread

 The Table of Showbread was made of acacia wood overlaid with pure gold.  On the table, the priests placed twelve loaves of bread made from fine flour.  Wine was placed on the altar with the bread.  These loaves represented the twelve tribes of Israel.

Table of Showbread  The table with the loaves was a continual reminder of the everlasting covenant between God and the children of Israel.  The loaves were a reminder of the Presence of God.  Fresh bread was placed there every Sabbath as a memorial of God’s provision of food.

Altar of Incense

 The Altar of Incense was made from acacia wood and was overlaid with gold.  It stood in front of the veil concealing the Most Holy Place.

Altar of Incense  The high priest burned incense upon it every morning and evening.  The fire for the incense came from the Bronze Altar in the outer court.  The Lord required a special sweet incense, used only for the tabernacle, to be burned on the altar of incense. The priest was in danger of death if any other incense was burned.

Altar of Incense  Once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the horns of the altar were sprinkled with the blood of the sin offering.  The incense rising with smoke is a picture of prayers rising continuously to heaven.

The Veil

 The veil was a divider between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place.  The veil was a barrier between God and man.  Once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the high priest would enter the Most Holy Place (Holy of Holies) through this veil.

Ark of the Covenant

Ark of the Testimony

Ark of the Covenant  The Ark was a chest made of acacia wood and overlaid with pure gold.  Inside the Ark were the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments.  The Mercy Seat was set on top of the Ark.

The Mercy Seat  The Mercy Seat was made of pure gold.  It had a winged cherub on each side, facing each other with wings outstretched above them, towards each other.  It was placed on top of the Ark.

The Mercy Seat  Annually, on the Day of Atonement, the high priest would sprinkle blood on the Mercy Seat to atone for the sins of all the people.  God offered mercy so sinful people could approach Him.

The Tabernacle / The Tent of Meeting

Exodus 35:5 Take from among you a contribution to the LORD. Whoever is of a generous heart, let him bring the LORD's contribution: 35:21 And they came, everyone whose heart stirred him, and everyone whose spirit moved him, and brought the LORD's contribution to be used for the tent of meeting

Exodus 36:3 In fact, so much was being given each morning, 4 that finally everyone stopped working 5 and said, "Moses, there is already more than we need for what the LORD has assigned us to do." 6 So Moses sent word for the people to stop giving, and they did. 7 But there was already more than enough to do what needed to be done.

Exodus 40:34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. 35 And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

Cloud & Pillar of Fire  The Lord manifested his presence with a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.  It would rest above the tabernacle, directly above the Mercy Seat.  When the cloud or pillar of fire moved, the children of Israel followed it.  Wherever it stopped, they camped there until it moved again.

Cloud & Pillar of Fire

Exodus 29:44 The Lord said, “I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar… 45 I will dwell among the people of Israel and will be their God. 46 And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God.

Tabernacle? or Temple? God stills dwells with His people. I Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? Eph 2:20-21 (believers), being joined together, grow into a holy temple in the Lord.

Ark of the Covenant? with the Ten Commandments in it? Scripture Jesus came to fulfill the Law In the New Covenant, the Lord declares, “I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Jeremiah 31:33, Hebrews 8:10

The Mercy Seat? Hebrews 4:14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

VEIL? Matthew 27:50-51 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. Matthew 27:50-51 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. Hebrews 10:19-20 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the veil, that is, through His flesh,

Incense Altar? Jesus, our High Priest, is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25

Candlestick? Table of the Presence (Showbread)?

Basin (Bronze Laver)? you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. I Corinthians 6:11 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:22

Brazen Altar (of sacrifice)? Hebrews 10:4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Hebrews 7:27 Jesus has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for His own sins and then for those of the people, since He did this once for all when He sacrificed Himself.

TABE RNACLE? – place where God would dwell? And the Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 dwelt = “tabernacled”
