13. Metro East Lead Collaborative Outreach Campaign Childhood lead poisoning is a serious health concern for the region’s Children. Lead Poisoning is a condition caused most often by eating Lead paint chips or breathing or eating lead dust. Lead is especially Harmful to infants and children 6 years of age and younger. Lead poisoning Can slow a child’s development and cause learning and behavior problems. Even small amounts of lead can damage a child’s brain, kidneys, and stomach. Lead Free 2003 is a regional collaboration lead by The Metro East Lead Collaborative, Operation Weed and Seed St. Louis, and The St. Louis Lead Prevention Coalition. Within your community there are several simple things that you can do on a daily basis to prevent child hood lead poisoning.
