3 24/7 access to digital audio books and eBooks. downloaded from WILBOR website Content includes adult fiction, nonfiction, and K12 titles—all in various genres All titles purchased remain for the life of the Consortium; titles are not withdrawn

4 The Collection Audiobooks: 4532 titles (since June 2008) eBooks: 6227 titles (since Dec. 1, 2010) Duplicate copies of popular titles (12,043 copies of ebooks, for ex.) 25 “Always Available” audio titles; 25 ebook titles Audio formats: wma and mp3 eBook formats: ePUB, pdf, and Kindle

5 Downloading Intended for home use Patrons download and install free software Content can be transferred to portable devices Some audiobooks can be burned to CDs Audio book titles can be downloaded in pieces, helpful for slower connections

6 The Basics One time: download software or app to manage digital rights & “libraries” Browse or Search for title (audio- or e-book) Add to Cart, Check Out (If in circ, add to wait list) Download—to computer or mobile device Transfer, if desired, from computer to portable device

9 Takeaway: Books that are checked out must go through a process (software) to “unlock” the copyright protection This means an extra step that patrons don’t need to do when they BUY a book

12 Takeaway: Formats There are 5 formats, compatible with different devices. There are charts and guides to help you choose the right one for any given device.

14 Takeaway: Devices There are lots of devices, but they fall into one of 3 classes, and the process for all devices in any one class is the same. (And we have charts and guides.)

15 Authentication Through WILBOR’s EZ-Proxy, or through your automation system After selecting their “home library,” patrons login using their barcode number (and a PIN, if your library is authenticating through your automated system)

16 Circ Stats & Cataloging … MARC records available (paid by WILBOR) Audiobooks “checked out” for 1 week: eBooks for 2 weeks Most titles are 1 download-at-a-time; 25 audiobook and 25 eBook titles are “always available,” allowing for unlimited number of patrons downloading title at the same time Library-specific statistics are available
