2  Kelly Street Children’s Centre is located in two separate buildings.  The main building is situated at 2 Kelly Street, Greenock and the campus is within St Mary’s Primary School.  The centre provides a service for children aged 3 to 5 years with a combined capacity of 80 children at each session a.m. and p.m.  There are 17 early years members of staff which include Head, Depute, 11 Early Years Education & Child Care Officers, 1 Peripatetic Teacher. 3 Early Years Support Assistants.  The centre offers a limited wrapround facility for parents.  The centre enjoys excellent relationships with local primary schools.  We pride ourselves with the links we have with external agencies and the wider community.  Parents are involved in many activities e.g. developing policies, organising resources to support the curriculum and monitoring & evaluating the service. 3 Statement on the process of self-evaluation, involvement of stakeholders and sources of evidence The process for self-evaluation at Kelly Street Children’s Centre involves all stakeholders. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved at the beginning of each session and training is given to parents to help support them in this process. All staff are engaged in professional discussion and reflection and are timetabled along with parents and children to look at specific performance indicators (Child at the Centre – HMI Inspector of Education 2007) which then enables us to identify areas for development and improvement and promote innovative practice. The tools we use to gather evidence include: Quality indicators which highlight strengths and weaknesses Observation of children’s learning planning sheets Photographs of children’s success and achievements Video footage Staff, parents and visiting agencies questionnaires Comments from children’s learning stories, comments made by parents at settling in meetings, suggestions & comments made by parents in daily comments box. Inspection reports from Care Inspectorate, HMIe, Quality Visits from the Authority Last year, Kelly Street Children’s Centre’s priorities for development were: Embed the centre’s vision, values and aims in all activities Further develop effective links with colleagues/schools Develop and extend child/parent workshops Further develop consultation with children What is this all about? 4 How successful are we? Priorities Priority 1 Embed the centre’s vision, values and aims in all activities How are we doing? All staff and children are now clear on the centre’s vision & values. The centre now has a vision & values song which we all sing at the start of each session. How do we know? Our vision & values song is now embedded into our daily routine. All children are encouraged to play, share, grow, laugh and learn throughout all nursery activities. What are we going to do now? We will continue to embed our vision and values song throughout our daily routine. We will ensure that all new staff and children are familiar with this procedure. We will continue to ensure that all parents are made aware of our vision and values song as part of the enrolment process.

5 Priority 2 Further develop effective links with colleagues/schools How are we doing? Transitions are an integral part of the nursery's daily routine. We are continuing to form excellent relationships with our local primary schools to support children and parents during this important time. How do we know?  Positive feedback from colleagues re school and nursery visits  Positive feedback from parents transition questionnaires  Children more confident attending transition days at school.  Transition Play Day in The Annexe Park during summer break  Individual Transition Support Books for children.  Parent’s Transition Meetings  Collaborate with NQT’s at Clydeview Academy Fairtrade Day What are we going to do now? We are continuing to improve in our transitions throughout the year. We are developing new transition procedures from home – nursery, nursery – nursery and nursery – school. Introduce children’s handbook to support children starting nursery and also introduce a transition co-ordinator. Introduce our Twitter account.

6 Priority 3 Develop and extend child/parent workshops How are we doing? The centre is continuing to introduce new children/parent workshops showcasing what children have been learning. How do we know?  Parent/child Morton Football Workshop  Parent/child Jumpin’ Jax Sponsor  Parent/child Playdough Workshop  Parent/child Fundraiser for Nepal  Parent/child Book Bug Sessions What are we going to do now? We will continue to work collaboratively with our parents to further develop child/parents workshops in all areas of the curriculum.

7 Priority 4 Further develop consultation with children How are we doing? The children are continuing to have excellent experiences and opportunities within the centre. Staff consult with children consistently throughout all areas of the nursery. How do we know?  Staff consult with children regarding topics e.g. exit passes  Staff consult with children regarding resources  Staff consult with children regarding purchasing new equipment  Staff consult with children regarding likes and dislikes of the nursery What are we going to do now? Continue to further develop consultation with children Introduce children’s working groups to fully involve children in the life of the centre Consult with children to develop their own handbook

8 How we promote equality within our centre. What have we done in the last year to promote equality  We place equality at the heart of everything we do.  We aim to promote a culture in which equality of opportunity exists for all.  Equality permeates our curriculum and underpins all our policies and practices in terms of access to education for all. What measures do we have in place to support and protect individuals?  We operate Inverclyde Council's Child Protection Policies & Procedures within the centre, ensuring all families have opportunity to be included and be heard. What have we done to foster good relations and promote tolerance?  We promote good relationships between people of different groups whatever their race, gender, disability, age, religion and belief or sexual orientation. We sing about equality as part of our Vision & Values Song which we sing daily.

9 How successful are we? Achievements The children, parents and staff participated in a variety of successful events throughout the year, some of the highlights are recorded below. Go Yellow Day 2nd June 2015 Children enjoyed taking part in our Go Yellow Day Sponsored Jumpin Jax 12 th December 2014 All children and parent’s participated in a sponsored Jumpin Jax held at Dazzle Dance Studio Rotary Club Shoebox Appeal November 2014 Children and Parents participated in our shoebox appeal. In aid of providing children of Lasi, in north-east Romania with Christmas gifts Morton Community Trust Physical Activity Programme The children have fun learning physical skills with the Morton Community Trust Team Fairtrade Fun Day 12 th June 2015 Our children were invited to take part in This exciting event at Clydeview Academy. They all enjoyed the experience. Nepal Charity Event 4 May 2014 Our caring nursery children held a relief effort to help children in earthquake hit Nepal.
