1 Teacher Guide This lesson is designed to teach kids to ask a critical thinking question that you can’t just put into a search box to solve. To do that, we encourage them with smaller questions that search can help them answer. Make sure that you read the notes for each slide: they not only give you teaching tips but also provide answers and hints so you can help the kids if they are having trouble. Remember, you can always send feedback to the Bing in the Classroom team at BingInTheClassroom@Microsoft.com. You can learn more about the program at bing.com/classroom and follow the daily lessons on our Partners In Learning site. 3 Not even hurricane Hugo in 1989 could fell Angel Oak, a massive old southern live oak tree in South Carolina. Though Angel Oak is on Johns Island, it’s so close to Charleston that visitors to the city will often make their way over to see for themselves the tree’s sprawling limbs. The 66.5-foot-tall tree was perhaps 200 years old already when South Carolina became a state 226 years ago today. Some tests have suggested Angel Oak could have started growing as many as 1,500 years ago. Recently, planned development in the nearby forest has prompted many protests from locals, who formed the group Save the Angel Oak, in order to challenge the construction of an apartment complex just 160 yards from the tree.
