3-5 Continuity and End Behavior Pre Calc A

Discontinuous vs Continuous

Continuity Test A function is continuous at x = c if it satisfies the following conditions: 1. The function is defined at c; f(c) must exist 2. The function approaches the same y-value on the left and right sides of x = c 3. The y-value that the function approaches from each side is f(c)

Ex 17: Determine whether each function is continuous at the given x-value

Ex : Determine whether each function is continuous at the given x-value

End Behavior Can be determined by coefficient of highest power

Ex : Determine the end behavior of y = 4x³ + 2x -1

Increasing and Decreasing Functions Determine the intervals on which the function is increasing and decreasing
