2. What we’re going to discuss today! The importance of Interreligious Dialogue How the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament & the Qur’an feel about one another. The similarities & differences between the three “religions of the book” The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Inter-faith Marriages (Possibly)

3. The Importance of Inter-religious Dialogue “Ignorance breeds prejudice, bigotry and hostility.” Knowledge about others forms security and respect for one another. People have a responsibility to their faith. To be true to our faith, we must inform others and strive to obtain our values together.

4. The Hebrew Bible Psalms 24:1-10  Discusses one of the laws of Noah which adheres to all religions. Psalms 47:1-10  All religions believe in the one and same God.

5. The New Testament Matt 28: 16-20  Although Muslims are not allowed to convert people, Christians are encouraged to “spread the word of God to all nations.” Acts 1:8  “But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the world.”

6. The New Testament Acts 2:1-11  Talks of Pentecost: Celebration of the Holy Spirit which is only believed in Christianity. Acts 9:1-22

7. The Qur’an Surah 2:104-121  You do not have to be a Christian or Jew to get into heaven, you just have to submit yourself to God.  Although Christians & Jews believe their texts are the “right” ones, Muslims believe that the Qur’an is more accurate and states that all you must do is believe in Allah.

8. The Qur’an Surah 98:1-8  Those who do good deeds will be rewarded with Allah and eternal gardens, those who reject the book will be in Hellfire. (Similar to Christianity & Judaism) Surah 109:1-6  Only practice religions the way you have learned it. Other people have their own religions and you have yours. Be respectful of other peoples views on faith.

9. Judaism-Christianity The background of Judaism is crucial for the understanding of Christianity whereas the Christian faith is not a factor in the Jewish faith. Both stem from the revelation at Mt. Sinai Both aware of the divine presence.

10. Christianity-Islam Muslims are more devout to the Qur’an whereas Christians are not as affluent with their texts. Islam have set daily rituals whereas Christians are more lax.

12. Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an ongoing dispute between two peoples, Jewish Israelis and Arab Palestinians Both claim the right to sovereignty over the Land of Israel/Palestine in whole or in part.

13. Judaism-Christianity-Islam Based on regular prayer and the practice of charity. Monotheistic All have set laws. All believe in the Lord of Creation.

14. Inter-faith Marriages Surah 2:221  Muslim man is not supposed to marry a non- Muslim woman unless she is a “Person of the Book.”  Muslim women may only marry a Muslim man.  A Muslim woman must follow the leadership from someone in her own faith.
