Advanced Principles of Material Science Marcus Marcus, Nhi Huynh, & Rahul Ravi

 Perform tests on samples from PT Argha Karya Prima Industry, Tbk.  Examine and analyse test results and discuss why polypropylene is used and what products are manufactured in this industry  Investigate material properties and explain their advantages/disadvantages in the raw and processed phase (include reasoning)  Further understand how material testing works

Online (advmaterialprojects): http://advmaterialprojects.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/gantt-chart.pdf * Open USB file

 Mr. Sumadja Lim  Senior Engineering Project Manager  Mr. Denny Hidayat  Quality Control Head  PT Argha Karya Prima Industry, Tbk.  Material: plastics  Flexible packaging in South-East Asia region  Consumer/Industrial goods eg. Cigarette films, and paper lamination

 Material: Polypropylene  From the company, if possible  Raw or consumer goods packaging  Out source them from potential sellers, makers, or someone in a similar industry who can afford to spare a few (other universities/students maybe)

 Initial tests:  Tensile Strength  Heat Treatment  Secondary tests:  Further treatments (heat, shrinkage, elasticity) ie. To identify/examine other and/or existing properties in detail  Elongation

 To record down the findings and observe why polypropylene is used in the industry  To learn what process are undergone and if the material can withstand such limits  Done by examining test results  To further understand the importance of material testing and selection of mechanical properties
