2. Entertainment in Middle Ages People during the Middle Ages had feasts, banquets, jousts and tournaments, mystery plays, fairs. Also, they did games, hunting, and hawking for entertainment.

3. Entertainment in Middle Ages (2) Troubadours, minstrels, and jugglers provided most of the entertainment during the Middle Ages. Jesters and mummers also provided entertainment.

4. Troubadours and Minstrels Troubadours were poet musicians that didn’t write religious poems, but romances about knights and ladies. They traveled from village to village. Minstrels were entertainers for both upper and peasant classes and they played songs about great battles and honor, like King Arthur.

5. Major Holidays and Festivals Christmas, Easter, May Day, and completion of harvest were examples of holidays. During festivals and holidays, music, games, and outdoor activities were usually occasions. Minstrels and Troubadours mainly produced music, and chess was the main game.

6. Games in Middle Ages Chess, board games, dice games, and backgammon were popular. Chess is a game is where you use your 16 pieces; black or white, and try to capture the king to win.

7. Entertainment for Wealthy Jousts and feasts were entertainment wealthy people particularly enjoyed. Tournaments were popular, and musicians like minstrels and troubadours would provide musical entertainment.

8. Outdoor Entertainment Archery, chess, colf, board games, gameball, horseshoes, wrestling, and stoolball was popular. Gameball is football, colf is golf, and stoolball is cricket.

9. Dancing Knights Knights were expected to dance, because they had to follow the concept of ‘courtly love’. This was shown by not only just fighting, but also dancing. Medieval dancing is referred as Carol, or Ronde. Group of dancers dance in a circle, holding hands.

11. Medieval Music Sacred music was mainly religious music, very slow, and was in Latin. A great example is the Gregorian Chant, which was mainly developed in 800 to 1000 AD. Secular music was discouraged by the church. Secular music was not religious, faster, and was made with languages people normally use, not languages like Latin.
