The Six Pillars of Character Trustworthiness Respect Responsibility Fairness Caring Citizenship

Responsibility the quality or state of being responsible liable to be called on to answer (for yourself, something or someone) able to answer for one's conduct and obligations

Do you agree or disagree with the following statements? Explain your answer: Being responsible is an important aspect of good character. My grades are not as important as the sport that I am involved in. Everyone is responsible for the development of his or her own personal character. Responsible people don't blame others or make excuses for their actions and choices.

Road to Responsibility Set a goal to use a planner for one month. Stick to your plan. Identify your biggest time-wasters…limit them. Are you a “pleaser;” someone who says yes to everything? If so, have the courage to say no today when it’s the right thing to do. If you have an important test in one week, don’t procrastinate and wait until the day before to study. Suck it up and study a little each day. Think of something you’ve procrastinated for a long time but that’s very important. Block out time this week to get it done! How much impact does peer pressure have on you? Identify the person or people who have the most influence upon you. Ask yourself, “Am I doing what I want to do, what they want me to do, or what is right?
