Music Magazine Industry Research By Daniel Wright

Conglomerate Publishers: Bauer Media Conglomerate Publishers are a group of diverse companies under common ownership and run as a single organization. Bauer Media is such an organisation having the companies of Kerrang, Mojo and Q all part of the same publishing…

Mojo Magazine Mojo covers many different types of music including classic and modern rock, folk, soul, country to reggae, electronic and experimental. Mojos target audience varies ages as it covers different genres that appeal to different types of people and different age groups. Mojo is a mainstream magazine. This means it is one of the most popular magazines among people.

Kerrang Magazine Kerrang covers rock music, mainly punk rock but sometimes includes metal music. I would say Kerrang’s target audience is people aged between 16-25 that will be interested in most of the contents of the magazine. Kerrang is a mainstream magazine. This means it is one of the most popular magazines among people.

Q Magazine Q magazine covers modern music. Q magazines target audience are people aged between 10-80 as it covers all modern music that are in the different charts at the moment. Q magazine is a mainstream magazine. This means it is one of the most popular magazines among people.

Conglomerate Publishers: Bauer Media Bauer Media is part of synergy which is the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects From this we can conclude that Bauer Media deals with the publishing of popular mainstream magazine companies.

Conglomerate Publishers: IPC Media IPC is more of a magazine marketing company than a publishing company like Bauer Media. They claim that even established brands and companies e.g. NME (magazine) need to advertise as much as new brands and companies. The publishers at IPC media see marketing as one of the most important factors into making a successful magazine business…

NME Magazine NME is a music news magazine that covers everything new in music. NME more specifically covers indie music as its main magazine genre. NME’s target audience isn’t very specific as it covers news from different genres which different audiences and age groups may listen to. Since it covers news from the different genres of music I would guess NME’s target audience is between 16-80.

Uncut Magazine Uncut claim to be the spiritual home of great rock music, revelatory interviews, in-depth features and the very best new music every month. Uncut magazine also covers film news reaching out to fans of other forms of media as well as fans of music. This is what makes uncut its own conglomerate magazine in terms of forms of media. Uncut is a mainstream magazine which means it is one of the most popular magazines among people.

Conglomerate Publishers: IPC Media IPC Media is part of synergy which is the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. From this we can conclude that IPC Media deals with the publishing and marketing of popular mainstream magazine companies and different media forms.

Future Publishing Future plc is a media company. It was once ranked the sixth-largest media corporation in the UK. It publishes more than 30 magazines covering different media forms such as video games, technology, films, photography, and sport…

Music Radar Music Radar is a website for musicians. It covers information pertaining to artists and music, special features, product news and reviews, music lessons and a social network service in the style of Facebook and Myspace. Because of this I would say that music radar focuses on a younger audience of people aged 13 – 35. I would say music radar is niche because of its lack of recognisability and impact on the industry itself.

Computer Music Magazine Computer Music is a monthly magazine published by Future plc in the UK. It covers the topic of creating digital music on a computer. Each issue once contained a DVD-ROM with samples, plug-ins, software demos, tutorials, and other content related to the issue. I would say computer music is aimed t a younger audience as computer music is most commonly know as being listened to by a younger audience of people aged 12 – 25. Because it is aimed at a small group of people I would say t is a niche magazine.
