23/19/2016 Outline Background Project Planning Aspects PAR suggestions

33/19/2016 Background Challenges for special applications –Special application needs sometimes get less priority treatment in mainstream projects –Optimizations for special applications get impacted –Special applications however need lower cost enabled by mainstream commercial grade Silicon, Firmware, Software and Systems

43/19/2016 Project Planning Aspects Air Interface Enhancements Beyond 802.16m under discussion 1.Very High Throughput Networks (1-5 Gbps) 2.Advanced Services (Machine-to-Machine) 3.GRIDMAN Multiple PARs Need Co-ordination –PHY aspects best addressed in a single project –MAC enhancements that are application independent should be addressed in separate projects as appropriate Projects need to have a well defined plan and methodology: –Development of requirements, work plan, system design, evaluation methodology and finally the standard needs to mapped out well

53/19/2016 MAC PHY 802.16m OFDMA PHY enhancements 802.16m MAC enhancements Future Wireless Broadband Networks PAR Concept 802.16x Amendment builds on 802.16m Core PHY and MAC Design with enhancements in the PHY and MAC layer to support Very High Throughput Networks (1-5Gbps) and Advanced Services 802.16e OFDMA PHY 802.16e MAC 802.16x MAC enhancements 802.16x OFDMA PHY enhancements 16x: >1000-5000 Mbps, Advanced Services 16m: >300 Mbps 16e : 64 Mbps Performance Targets Features: Very High Throughput Low Cost Network Topologies Advanced QoS Mobile Video M2M

63/19/2016 MAC PHY 802.16m OFDMA PHY enhancements 802.16m MAC enhancements GRIDMAN Support in the context of 802.16x GRIDMAN should focus on MAC layer enhancements. For PHY layer enhancements requests should be made to 802.16m and 802.16x 802.16e OFDMA PHY 802.16e MAC 802.16x MAC enhancements 802.16x MAC enhancements 802.16x OFDMA PHY enhancements 16X: >1000-5000 Mbps, Advanced Services 16m: >300 Mbps 16e : 64 Mbps Performance Targets GRIDMAN MAC enhancements GRIDMAN Features Reliability Special Security Mission Critical Recovery Smart Grids Path redundancy, Mobile Base Station Low Duty Ratio Licensed, Unlicensed, Light Licensed Spectrum < 6GHz. ….

73/19/2016 PAR Title Suggestions Title could be crisper. Some title text could belong in scope 2.1 Title of Standard: Amendment to IEEE Standard for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Part 16: Air Interface for Fixed and Mobile Broadband Wireless Access Systems – Higher Reliability Reliable point-to- multipoint and multi-hop Networks topology capable of operation in degraded infrastructure

83/19/2016 PAR Scope Suggestions PHY changes better done in PHY focused projects 5.2 Scope of Proposed Standard: This amendment specifies OFDMA PHY, MAC and management interfaces enhancements to IEEE Standard 802.16 for High Reliability Networks supporting point-to- multi-point and multi-hop operation with increased robustness in degraded infrastructure. This amendment will support path redundancy, Mobile Base Station, Low Duty Ratio, as well as operation in licensed, unlicensed and lightly licensed spectrum bands below 6GHz.
