1 California School Nurses Organization Membership Information 2016-2017 Transition Year

2 Background – Membership change is rooted in the strategic planning process and input gathered from members throughout the state. (2014-2015) – Bylaw changes were voted in the fall of 2015. – Membership Changes go into effect July 1, 2016. – In the meantime, dual membership remains in effect. – It is highly recommended you sustain membership in both organizations.

3 – Committee was formed to consider transition process. – Fee structure was establish for this first year. – CSNO membership fees will be based upon when you are scheduled to renew with NASN. (Listed on the CSNO Website; join CSNO/NASN) – CSNO Board Of Directors voted 2/7/2016 to approve fee structure. – No changes to student $56, retiree $50 or Corporate $250 membership fees. – Brand new, first time CSNO member $99, regardless of when you join.

4 – Membership renewal may be done electronically or via paper application mailed in early, but CSNO membership will not be effective until July 1, 2016. – CSNO membership brochures will be mailed (March/April) – CSNO website will launch late April/May (projected) – Payroll deductions available (paper only application as signatures are needed). – May contribute to the School Nurses Foundation of California via membership application.

5 – Quarterly payments available. – Payments for membership may be done Credit card payments Check or Cash Purchase Orders/Warrants Membership enrollment applications must be received/ postmarked by September 30, 2016 to be eligible for Early Bird rates.

6 CSNO Annual Membership Fee Structure Membership Year-July 1 to June 30 Month of Membership Expiration July-Dec Jan-MarchApril-June 2016-2017 Renewal Amount (early-bird) $99 After Sept 30, 2016 goes to $110 (early-bird) $55 After Sept 30, 2016 goes to $110 auto- enrolled; no additional charges if a current member

8 Membership Recap New members (not current members of CSNO/NASN) regardless of when they join $99. (Must not have been a CSNO/NASN member within the past year). – All existing members must join by September 30, 2016 to receive early-bird discounts of $99. – Retired and Student membership rates unchanged (already reduced). – Membership payment date April-June automatically renewed-no charge if a current CSNO member.

11 – 2,391 school nurses in CA (CDE, 2015) – 1,300 CSNO members CSNO is setting a goal to have all school nurses join as members. If you, as a member, invite one school nurse to join CSNO we would meet our goal. As a New Recruiter Your recruiting potential

12 Recruiting Reward$ Members that recruit brand new members for 2016-2017 (a person that has not been a member in the past year) will receive $5 credit towards CSNO products (up to 9 recruited members.) Make sure the “brand” new members identifies you on the membership form/electronic website. But wait there is more……….

13 Recruiting Reward$ Members that recruit brand new members will be entered in to a drawing to receive a free conference registration. (One winner from each Section) Recruiting Reward$ ends December 1. Drawing will be held mid December to give participants ample time to plan to attend the annual conference. Additionally, members who recruit 10 new members receive a free preconference registration 15 new members receive a free conference registration 20 new members receive a free preconference and conference registration Please note these are non-transferrable

14 Frequently Asked Questions – Will I have the option of belonging to both organizations and keep my original membership enrollment date? CSNO is moving to an annual renewal time (July 1-Sept 30). You may join CSNO at any time, but to take advantage of the early bird rates, your membership will need to be postmarked or submitted online by September 30, 2016. Your NASN renewal date remains the same.

15 Frequently Asked Questions – Can I join CSNO and NASN at the same time? Unfortunately in our conversations with NASN, they shared “Once we are not unified, we don’t have the ability to accept our dues from the State Affiliate. It will have to be separate.” NASN will notify you when your membership has expired.

16 Frequently Asked Questions – Can I renew electronically? CSNO will post a membership link on our website so that you may renew your CSNO membership electronically. If you wish to use payroll deductions to pay for your CSNO membership, you must submit a paper application with your signature. The same signature is needed for the School Nurses of California Foundation deductions.

17 Frequently Asked Questions – I am a retired or a student member, do I get a discounted rate? CSNO retired and student rates are already discounted with full membership privileges. These rates will remain the same through the transition process.

18 Frequently Asked Questions – What if I am on the quarterly payment system with NASN? What should I do? You will need to sign up for quarterly payments with the CSNO application. Your quarterly payments will continue with NASN.

19 Frequently Asked Questions – If I renew after January of this current year 2016, will my next renewal be in July 2016? Yes, our CSNO membership is from July 1 to June 30 of the current calendar year.

20 Frequently Asked Questions – If I join July 1, do I owe another payment of $55 January? No, our CSNO membership is annually based. The $55 is a prorated rate for members who existing membership expired mid-year and who join by December.

21 Frequently Asked Questions – If I belong to CSNO only, will I still be able to get VSP certificates? No, VSP certificates are a NASN benefit. There are many benefits to belonging to NASN. To check these benefits out please visit http://www.nasn.org/membercenter/benef itsofmembership

23 Frequently Asked Questions – What if I only want to belong to one organization? Membership with both organizations is strongly recommended. 24 Frequently Asked Questions – When should I expect CSNO membership enrollment information? It is projected that 2016-2017 CSNO membership information will be mailed to you in the spring. Membership does not go into effect until July 1. If your membership to CSNO expires April-June, you will automatically be a member of CSNO for 2016-2017. CSNO electronic site will be live in late April-May.

25 Frequently Asked Questions – Say I pay my membership early, when will my CSNO membership start? If you pay your CSNO membership early, your membership will not go into effect until July 1, 2016. CSNO membership will be from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.
