1 A MISSION FOR SIXTH GRADE SCIENCE STUDENTS DO NOW: READ THE MY PLANET DIARY AND ANSWER THE QUESTION.

2  What are some of the moon’s phases that you know about or have learned about before?  Draw where you think the moon, sun, and Earth are located so we can see a full moon, half moon, and new moon. ???

3  Read pgs. 22-24  Answer the questions as you read  Finish with the assess your understanding questions  If you finish early, start reading about eclipses

4  Now I know that moon phases are caused by…  Create a model of the Earth, Moon, and Sun  Each pair of students will choose a phase of the moon to represent with their model  The teacher will model what each phase should look like with a globe and flashlight

5  An eclipse is when there is an object between the sun and another object  Solar Eclipse: when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun, blocking sunlight from the Earth. The moon’s shadow hits the Earth.

6  Lunar Eclipse: when the Earth is directly between the moon and the sun during a full moon. The Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon.

7  Use your model of the sun, moon, and Earth to display their positions during a Solar and Lunar eclipse.  When you have showed the teacher your display, work on the Assess Your Understand questions on page 27.

8 LAST 15 MINUTES Log onto the internet Go to www.kahoot.it Write your first name as your user name. When everyone is there I will give you the code. We will then take the quiz on your reading.
