4 Imaginative narrative- a story that is make believe with events that can not happen in real life Example: Cinderella Non- example: Junie B. Jones- Realistic fiction

5 Why is it important to know the different structural features of various imaginative narratives? Makes us better readers and it helps us make better predictions.

6 Various Types of Imaginative Narratives Folktales (past down through generations, usually began as oral stories) Fables Tall Tales Fairy tales Legends/ myths Modern Fantasies -Were animals act like people -Setting in another world or imaginary place -Magic -Characters can have special powers Ex- Harry Potter

7 Folktales Fables Talking animals that act like people teach lesson Tell how things came into being Fairy tales Begins with Once upon a time Good vs. evil Magic Talking objects and animals Sometimes deals with royalty have a happy ending Legends/ Tall Tales Talking animals Exaggeration/ hyperbole Tell how things came in being Teach a lesson Uses supernatural characters or forces to explain nature some times begins with “in the beginning” Myths (past down through generations, usually began as oral stories)
